Whey
What is Whey?
Whey is a protein derived from cow’s milk. It is 20% of the cow’s milk and as a dairy derivative people with a dairy intolerance or allergy should avoid it, even in their workout diets. Whey is the byproduct left when making cheese, an extremely soluble protein and while very nutritious, it is not good for someone with a dairy intolerance.
Whey is commonly found in prepackaged foods and almost always in shake mixes as a form of protein, especially in shake mixes promoted use in conjunction with exercising.
Another protein found in dairy is casein. It is possible that someone could be intolerance to whey and not casein and vice versa, but its very difficult to isolate each protein in order to determine that.
